General Questions

How can I play at the Academy?

We run events every day that we're open. Check our event schedule for details.

For games like D&D with high demand and limited seating, we strongly recommend purchasing your tickets before the event.

Can I play a game that isn't on the schedule?

Of course! Our tables are open for free play as long as they're not needed for a scheduled event.

Can I reserve space at the Academy for my event?

Due to space limitations, we do not currently take reservations for private, non-store sanctioned events. You're welcome to use any open table that's not needed for an official event, or join us for one of our store events!

We hope to be able to offer private gaming space in the future, so stay tuned.

How can I follow what's happening at the Academy?

The best way to keep in touch is to join our Discord server. That's where we share most of our news about new events and products.

You can also keep an eye on our event schedule, or just stop by to see us in person!

Do you purchase CCG singles?

We currently purchase singles for Magic: The Gathering & Flesh and Blood. We'll take almost anything with a card value of $2 or more. We also buy collections!

RPG Program

Who runs your games?

All of our games are run by professional GMs who are paid for every session. They're specialists in creating unique, memorable games for our community!

What kind of games do you run?

Our RPG games fall under two tiers.

Adventure tier is the classic Academy RPG experience—shorter, self-contained games of 1-4 sessions. They run weekly in our main play area and cost $10/session, paid upfront.

Legendary tier is the full RPG experience—levelling up, bonding with your party, and diving into character/plot arcs. These are campaign-length games that run for at least six sessions, but usually much longer. They meet weekly or biweekly (GM's choice) in our private, themed RPG room and cost $20/session, paid via subscription.

How does signing up for a campaign work?

Campaigns start with a session 0.5, where you can get a feel for the world, story, GM, and party for a discounted rate of $10. After that, you'll lock in your seat at the table by signing up for a subscription!

I'm looking at a game, and it says the price is $40. Why?

One to four session games are paid upfront. For a four-shot, $40 pays for the full game at $10/session.

Why do you require upfront payments and/or subscriptions?

Buying a ticket every game means that you, your GM, and our staff has to track who has paid every time. Automating the payment process means focusing less on record-keeping and more on the game! It also ensures that our GMs receive the full payment for every game that they run.

What happens if I need to cancel my ticket?

If you're more than one week out from the start of an adventure or campaign, you may cancel your ticket by contacting the Academy. After that, adventure tickets are transferrable but not refundable.

Campaign subscriptions are locked for the first six sessions, then you may cancel with 30-days notice. (This gives the GM time to fill your seat at the table.)

I want to GM for the Academy!

We're currently rolling out a new RPG system, so we've decided to pause new GMs until we get things settled. We'll announce when we start taking new GMs again, so stay tuned!

New Players

I'm new to D&D. How can I learn to play?

You have options!

The best way is to check our event schedule for one of our D&D 101 events. These sessions are designed specifically with new players in mind, with simplified rules that let you start playing right away!

You're also welcome to join one of our regular D&D games. All of our DMs are happy to work with new players. To avoid getting too complex, we'd recommend looking for a game with characters starting at third level or lower.

Finally, if you want to get started at home, we carry the official D&D Starter Kit and Essentials Kit, and we're happy to give you tips to start learning with your friends and family.

I'm new to Warhammer 40K. How can I learn to play?

We run an exclusive learn-to-play scenario that was designed specifically for new players at the Academy! Check our event schedule for details.

I'm new to Magic. How can I learn to play?

Our community is welcoming and is always happy to help a new player get started. We'd recommend coming to the Academy during our Commander event on Wednesday evening. A community or staff member can help teach you the basics, then you're welcome to borrow a deck and try your hand at a few casual games.
